Charisma

Part eco-thriller, part existentialist fable, 'Charisma' is a bizarre allegorical tale from director Kiyoshi Kurosawa, exposing a sinister natural world beyond any environmentalist's dreams. Koji Yakusho ('Shall We Dance') stars as Goro, a disgraced detective who flees Tokyo following a hostage disaster. Seeking solitude in the depths of a remote forest, he is confronted by a gnarled, sinister tree that evokes both wonder and fear in its human visitors. Entangled in the debate around the tree, Goro sees within the situation the potential for his redemption - but only if he is able to make the right decision.
