Unknown Pleasures / Xiao Wu

Two films from acclaimed director Jia Zhang-Ke take a look at contemporary China, its inequalities, direction and disaffected urban youth. 'Unknown Pleasures' sees American pop culture-obsessed, Xiao Ji and Bin Bin idle away their time hustling, slacking and visiting dance clubs while desperately pining for better lives. Jia's acutely observed debut feature 'Xiao Wu' follows the exploits of a petty thief operating as a pickpocket in a ramshackle provincial town.
