Tsotsi, (a slang word for 'thug'), is a Johannesberg delinquent whose life has been a series of abandonments and abuse, resulting in a young man already bitterly hardened to life at the age of 19. Ruthless and violent, his life takes a sudden turn when he unexpectedly becomes the guardian of an infant child. This bleak and fiercely intimate portrait of a street thug is based on the novel by South African playwright Athol Fugard and combines its harsh subject matter with a lyrically beautiful style reminiscent of 'City of God'. Deserving winner of many international awards including Best Foreign Film Oscar in 2006.
