Max Skinner (Russel Crowe) is a high-powered city trader and self-proclaimed 'greedy bastard' who hears that his once-beloved uncle (Albert Finney) has died and, by default, he now owns a dilapidated French winery. Naturally he plans to flog it off immediately, but when he inspects his new property, a rush of sun-dappled flashbacks and a feisty local girl soon begin to melt his cold, money-grubbing city heart.
