Director of 'Thirteen', Catherine Hardwicke, uses her empathy for pregnant teens to good effect in telling the story that ends with the birth of baby Jesus. 16-year-old Keisha Castle-Hughes plays nice Jewish girl and miraculously pregnant Mary, and Oscar Isaac is her stoically supportive fiance, Joseph. Complete with angels, miracles and magi, this is a long overdue cinematic telling of the ultimate Christmas story that, unlike Mel Gibson's brutal 'Passion', aims to offend noone. In an odd case of life imitating art, Castle-Hughes herself became an unmarried pregnant teen in the final days of the shoot, though presumably not with the son of God.
