Mahmut is a 40-year-old independent photographer living in Istanbul, and in a deep existential depression following his wife's departure. He's used to big city life and suffering from many of its neuroses. Meanwhile, cousin Yusuf has left his native village, after the local factory shut down, and has taken a shipboard job in Istanbul to support his family back home. He's a lonely, but sweet, eccentric country bumpkin with annoying nervous and hygiene habits, and the immediate distance between the two men becomes increasingly pronounced in this visually sumptuous, and bleakly comic, drama that won both the Grand Prix and Best Actor awards at the Cannes Film Festival.
