In November 1970, a chartered plane carrying the Marshall University football team, their coaches and various prominent citizens, crashed into the Appalachian Mountains less than a minute before it was due to land. No one survived, and the small town fell into a deep depression. This is the story of their recovery, symbolised by the rebuilding of their varsity team, a concept initially opposed by many. Matthew McConaughey plays Jack Lengyl, the outsider who helps bring football back to Huntington, West Virginia, along with assistant coach Red Dawson (Matthew Fox). An unashamedly sentimental sports drama about moving on and playing football, filmed on location in the town where it happened.
