Building the Gherkin

Just one day after the attacks on the World Trade Centre in New York, the first steel beam of 30 St Mary Axe (as it is officially known) was put in place, sparking controversy about the appropriateness of building another iconic tower (and also on the site of terrorist bombings - by the IRA - in London). This rivetting documentary charts the progress of Norman Foster's 'ecological skyscraper' from blueprints to nickname to furnishings.
