Neverwas

Aaron Eckhart is psychiatrist Zach Riley, who gives up his academic career to work in a mental institution. It's the same place his late father once resided in, writing a well-loved children's book, before being overwhelmed by illness and addiction, and committing suicide. Zach strikes up a friendship with elderly schizophrenic Gabriel (Ian McKellen), and begins to make sense of his family's tragic past, his father's fantasy world and his place in both. An impressive cast for this first-time writer/director also includes William Hurt, Jessica Lange, Nick Nolte, Vera Farmiga and Brittany Murphy.
