Wim Wenders on Film: Lightning Over Water / The State of Things / A Trick of the Light

Three overlooked gems from the iconic German filmmaker. 'Lightning Over Water (Nick's Movie)' is a heart-wrenching document of the last days of Wenders' friend and Hollywood director, Nicholas Ray, who died of cancer, during filming, in 1979. 'The State of Things' follows a fictional director through the mines and mishaps of location filming, and 'A Trick of the Light' reflects on the very beginning of German cinema and the unsung Skladanowsky Brothers, contemporaries of the French Lumiere Brothers, shot with the help of Munich Film Academy students and a 1920s hand-cranked camera.
