Sanshiro Sugata II

This sequel was suggested by the Japanese government, in the wake of a devastating loss in the second world war. Set in 1887, the Japanese culture is facing imperialist abuse, and judo master Sanshiro steps in when an American soldier assaults a frail rickshaw driver. A boxing match between the two nations will restore Japanese national pride and show their fighting skills to be superior to all foreign usurpers. Based on the novel by Tsuneo Tomita.
