The Front Page

BIlly Wilder's sharp remake of the classic 'His Girl Friday' (in turn a remake of a 1931 film, based on a play from 1928!) stars Jack Lemmon as ace reporter Hildy Burns (played by Rosalind Russell in Hawks' 1940 comedy), and Walter Matthau as his ruthless editor, Walter Burns. Hildy is getting ready to leave the paper to get married, but Walter is prepared to do almost anything to get his best man to stay on the job. Meanwhile political corruption and conspiracy are brewing. Susan Sarandon co-stars as the bride-to-be, and Carol Burnett cameos as Matthau's acid-tongued girlfriend.
