Assassination ( aka Ansatsu )

Based on the novel by Ryotaro Shiba, this samurai classic from director Masahiro Shinoda begins in the waning years of the Tokugawa Shogunate. As American steamboats enter Edo Bay, civil unrest and political manoeuvring reign in Japan. Tetsuro Tamba stars as Hachiro Kiyokawa, a swordsman whose personal allegiances are in constant flux. As he drifts between factions, the warrior struggles to prevent the outbreak of civil war in this nihilistic and highly regarded masterpiece, virtually unheard of in the West.
