The 47 Ronin ( aka Chushingura )

One of the most retold stories in Japanese cinema is this historical samurai saga set at the turn of the 18th century, in which 47 loyal ronin seek vengeance after their master is forced into ritual suicide by a corrupt official. Thematically dense and politically complex this is unlike the action-packed, sword-slinging samurai films of Kurosawa, and instead offers a challenging, though imminently rewarding, cinematic experience, masterfully executed. Beautiful cinematography and a magnificent cast make this a true classic.
