The Plainsman

Gary Cooper is Wild Bill Hickok and Jean Arthur is his Calamity Jane in Cecil B. Demille's grand western about profiteering white men running guns to those nasty injuns. As Wild Bill buddies up with Buffalo Bill and attempts to broker a peace between the military and the indians, Jane is captured by braves and tortured, spilling the beans and indirectly causing Custer's downfall! Light on the truth, but big on story-telling this is classic DeMille.
