However the arrival of a new next-door neighbour throws Martin's orderly life into turmoil. Paul is everything Martin is not, impulsive, handsome, witty and charming - and all his earnest attempts to join in the community are seen by Martin as direct rivalry! A hugely popular series for its four years, it also stars Peter Egan as the unwelcome newcomer and Penelope Wilton as Martin's long-suffering wife.
