Monarch of the Glen: Series 1

"Monarch of the Glen" is a whimsical contemporary series set in the magnificent Scottish Highlands. The crumbling Glenbogle Estate, with its 200 tenants and 40,000 acres, harbours rich and feisty characters, along with a crippling overdraft. Archie MacDonald left the family home 10 years ago and is an independent and ambitious young man in complete control of his busy life in London. Tricked into returning to Scotland by his eccentric father and dotty mother, Archie discovers he is now the Laird of the decaying family estate. Somehow, forces outside his control, both emotional and practical, conspire to make him stay longer than he planned... Inspired by the novels of Compton MacKenzie. With Richard Briers, Susan Hampshire.
