Jasmine Women

Based on the well-regarded novel by Su Tong and starring Ziyi Zhang and Joan Chen, both in multiple roles, this is the story of three generations of Chinese women, beginning in the 1930s and the swinging Jazz era, and moving through to the 1970s. The film's three segments each evoke a completely different era, even as the women seem to repeat the same mistakes of their predecessors, unable to make worthy romantic choices.
