Moving to Australia after separating from her husband, Jeannie Dwight (Brenda Blethyn) pursues her dream of becoming a successful comedienne. Meanwhile her shy older son Tim is charged with supporting the family and caring for his disabled brother, finding it tricky to maintain a lasting romance in the face of his domineering mum.
