North and South: The Trilogy
All three made-for-TV adaptations of John Jakes' epic US Civil War novels are available in this eight-disc set. In "Book One: North and South" (1985), tensions mount between the Hazards of Pennsylvania and the Mains of South Carolina in the days before the war breaks out. As the conflict heats up, one-time allies become full-blown enemies in "Book Two: Love and War" (1986). Finally, "Book Three: Heaven and Hell" (1994) finds old friendships rekindled as the war ends and the nation enters the Reconstruction. All-star cast includes Patrick Swayze, Kirstie Alley, David Carradine, Gene Kelly, Elizabeth Taylor, and James Stewart.
