Cold Mountain
In the fading days of the Civil War, a wounded Confederate soldier named Inman (Jude Law) struggles on a perilous journey to return to his home of Cold Mountain, North Carolina as well as to Ada (Nicole Kidman), the woman he left behind before going off to fight. As he encounters an assortment of mysterious characters during his journey, she copes with the absence of her lover while running her deceased father's farm with the help of feisty drifter Ruby (Renee Zellweger in an Oscar-winning performance for Best Supporting Actress). Director Anthony Minghella's stunning adaptation of Charles Frazier's award-winning novel features a superb supporting cast including Philip Seymour Hoffman, Natalie Portman, Brendan Gleeson, Ray Winstone, and Donald Sutherland.
