Dramatisation of the decline of three of the most powerful European dynasties of the modern age; the Hapsburgs, Romanovs and Hohenzollerns. As the threat of World War I looms ever closer, the Habsburgs of Austria-Hungary, Russia's Romanov family, and the Hohenzollerns of Germany lose their power and influence while social conditions stagnate and populations grow impatient with despotic rule. This 13-part epic features an all-star cast including Patrick Stewart, Michael Kitchen, John Rhys-Davies, Miriam Margolyes and Gemma Jones.
