A realistic view of the overly romanticised Jesse James, casting Brad Pitt as the psychopathic outlaw and Casey Affleck as the infatuated and volatile Robert Ford. James heads a notorious gang of robbers which Ford aligns himself with and as James retires to domestic life, Ford follows. Robert Ford lived with James and his family for years before killing him and this film is as much an involving psychological portrait as it is an extraordinarily beautiful western. Masterful cinematographer Roger Deakins was Oscar-nominated for this film and 'No Country for Old Men' in the same year.
