The Art Star and the Sudanese Twins

Kiwi filmmaker Pietra Brettkelly paints an intimate portrait of artist Vanessa Beecroft and her struggle to adopt Sudanese twins in this acclaimed Sundance favourite. Beecroft (known as the 'pop star of the art world') went to Sudan to work on pieces about the Western response to Darfur, work which included the infamous photo of herself as the Madonna breast-feeding the children she now wishes to legally parent. Brettkelly captures the artist in her marital problems, artistic fervour and international debate over Western help/interference. Winner of 3 awards at the 2009 Qantas New Zealand Film and TV Awards (Best Festival Documentary, Best Director Documentary, Best Editor Documentary).
