Edward Burtynsky: Manufactured Landscapes

From its stunning eight-minute opening tracking shot to the remarkable documentation of China's Three Gorges Dam, this is an impressive experience as director Jennifer Baichwal ('The True Meaning of Pictures') follows photographer Edward Burtynsky through China. Famous for his industrial landscapes, Burtynsky's photographs contrast the massive environments of strip-mines, recycling dumps and ship yards with the comparatively ant-like workers who toil in their shadow. Baichwal complements the artist perfectly, exposing the ecological and environmental consequences of development, while letting the mesmerising images speak for themselves.
