A special effects blockbuster that reinterprets the Jules Verne classic. Brendan Fraser is Professor Trevor Anderson who finds himself temporarily lumbered with his teenage nephew (Josh Hutcherson), but with the boy comes a book from Trevor's missing brother, Max. Within it are details of his last journey in Iceland where Max was searching for the entrance to a fabled underground world. Enlisting a guide and with his nephew in tow, the professor follows in his brother's footsteps. Directed by veteran special effects artist Eric Brevig, this family adventure is packed to the gills with vertigo-inducing vistas and jaw-dropping CGI, designed for screenings in 3-D, but just as effective in 2-D.
