City of Ember

200 years after a global disaster forced humankind underground, the massive generator that runs the City of Ember is running down. Soon the lights will go out forever, unless two resourceful teenagers can figure out a series of clues left by the city's creators in order to find a way out and save everyone from a life of eternal darkness. Along with the two engaging teen leads (Saoirse Ronan, Harry Treadaway), this well-crafted family fantasy/adventure, with superb production design, also features Bill Murray as the corrupt Mayor who wants to maintain the staus quo at whatever cost, Martin Landau as a plodding city worker and Tim Robbins as an eccentric inventor. Based on the best-selling novel by Jeanne Duprau.
