As unenthused as his class at having to teach the evils of facism, popular teacher Rainer Wagner attempts to make things more interesting with a hastily-conceived experiment that goes dreadfully wrong. Based on the novel by Todd Strasser, and loosely based on actual events (though they happened in California not Germany), this disturbing indictment of the pack mentality plays out like a pacy thriller with a powerful message. Jurgen Vogel is convincing as the libertarian teacher who realises too late that he has created a monster. Nominated for the Grand Jury Prize for World Drama at Sundance, it also screened in festivals here.
