Clint Eastwood directs himself as Walt Kowalski, a racist Korean War veteran living in a crime-ridden area of Detroit. When a troubled local teen attempts to steal his prized 1972 Gran Torino, Walt is forced to confront his deep-seated prejudice. Eastwood, 78 when he made this film, draws on a career littered with intense, angry renegades, to infuse his Walt with layers of hard, painful memories that give him an inescapably believable quality. Eastwood has hinted that this will be his swan song to acting and it is a fitting capper to an extraordinary career in cinema.
