Before the Rains
Forbidden romance and culture clash lie at the heart of this drama set in 1930s India, as Britain's reign is beginning to lose its hold. British businessman Henry (Linus Roache) starts a spice plantation which requires staff, but as he attempts to woo the locals round to his way of thinking, he falls for his pretty (and married) housemaid. Once their illicit relationship is discovered, even Henry's greatest ally will turn against him. A beautifully photographed romantic drama released under the Merchant Ivory banner.
