It's the 1920s, ex-WWI pilot Waldo Pepper (Robert Redford) is on the barnstorming circuit, performing daring aerial stunts and wildly exaggerating his wartime exploits to drum up business and make himself seem more interesting. So what happens when he meets the actual German flying ace he claims to have beaten? A winning blend of adventure, humour and drama; director George Roy Hill, who previously collaborated with Redford on 'The Sting' and 'Butch Cassidy', was able to get this cherished pet project up and running on the back of those films' successes. Susan Sarandon co-stars; screenplay by William Goldman ('Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid').
