Married Life
Set in 1949, Chris Cooper is Harry, a middle-aged businessman agonising over how best to leave his wife, Pat (Patricia Clarkson), so he can marry Kay (Rachel McAdams), his younger girlfriend. He confides in his best friend, but when Richard (Pierce Brosnan) meets her, he decides he wants the lovely Kay for himself and sets about seducing her before Harry has time to leave his wife! A thought-provoking, blackly humourous blend of Hitchcock, 1940s pastiche and Bette Davis-style melodrama with a cracking ensemble cast. Based on the book 'Five Roundabouts to Heaven' by John Bingham, a former British Defence official who incidentally was the inspiration for John le Carre's famous espionage character, George Smiley.
