Slacker Uprising

In the months leading up to the 2004 Bush/Kerry election, opinionated documentarian Michael Moore went on a 60-city college campus tour hoping to mobilise apathetic students to get to the voting polls. With tempting lures that included a new pair of underwear, a box of noodles and entertaining celebrity guests, rather than dry politicians, Moore filled arenas and stadiums across the United States. Screening at the 2007 Toronto Film Festival under the title, 'Captain Mike Across America', the film went unreleased until 2008 when, just six weeks before the McCain/Obama election, Moore put the message before the money and made the film available for free on the internet. Amongst those lending their support are R.E.M., Eddie Vedder, Roseanne Barr, Viggo Mortensen and Joan Baez.
