Roman Polanski Collection: Knife in the Water / Repulsion / Cul-de-Sac

'Knife in the Water' (90 mins): An absorbing drama that grows out of the tensions created when a couple off for a sailing weekend pick up a student hitchhiker. Polanski's first feature is a brilliant piece of cinematic storytelling. Stars Leon Niemszyk, Jolanta Vmecka. 'Repulsion' (100 mins): A study of sexual dementia starring Catherine Deneuve in the part of a young girl tormented by the thought of sex to the point of madness. 'Cul-de-sac' (107 mins): A distinctly macabre comedy/thriller in which two gangsters (Lionel Stander and Jack MacGowran) are on the run, and seek refuge at an island castle off the Northumberland coast, where an emasculated businessman-cum-artist (Donald Pleasance) lives with his delectable young French wife (Francoise Dorleac).
