Dottie Gets Spanked

Writer/director Todd Haynes made this stylish, tender-hearted short between his critically acclaimed features 'Poison' and 'Safe', and the deeply personal work cemented him as a leader of the 1990s Queer New Wave. Young Steven is a sensitive, artistically-inclined boy who (though encouraged by his mother) is shunned by his father and peers, and so seeks refuge in a fantasy world. His thoughts rest on his favourite TV series, 'The Dottie Show', a raucous 'I Love Lucy' type show that provides him with a life of fun and escape.
