Dean Spanley

A whimsical and hypnotic tale, set in Edwardian England, and starring Peter O'Toole as the cantankerous father of an exasperated Jeremy Northam. Their relationship is strained at best, but the arrival of an intriguing stranger, played by Sam Neill, sheds new light on the family background. Adapted from the charming short story by Lord Dunsany, and directed by Kiwi Toa Fraser ('No. 2'), this is delightfully eccentric and owes much to the excellent cast that also includes Aussie mainstay Bryan Brown. The film cleaned up at the NZ TV and Film Awards with 12 nominations and 7 wins, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor for Peter O'Toole.
