Turn the River

Famke Janssen plays Kailey, a woman who makes her living gambling and hustling pool in seedy bars. Her lifestyle drove a wedge between her and her husband and he won custody of their young son, Gulley. But now, she's ready to take him back. All she needs is $50,000 to get her and Gulley black market documents, and they can start a new life in Canada. A finely-observed and unsentimental character study of a desperate working-class woman trying to claw her way out of a life of limited options. Rip Torn co-stars as Kailey's grizzled mentor, along with Matt Ross and Lois Smith. Janssen learned to play pool and performs all her own shots.
