Frenchwoman Seraphine de Senlis, lived from 1864 to 1942. A shepherdess and housekeeper, in her private hours she painted incredible floral arrangements unlike anything seen before. Having the scantest of materials, she created paints from whatever she could find - animal blood, oil from church candles, and dirt pulled from the ground. Her neighbours found her work crude, even laughable, but when she was accidentally discovered by an art critic, she rocketed to wealth and fame. Something she was ill-prepared for. A sumptuous and moving biopic with an outstanding lead performance from Yolande Moreau who won a Cesar Award, one of seven that included Best Film and Best Writing.
