Alternative 3

This 1977 spoof documentary caused uproar when first broadcast on UK Television. Taking its premise that there was a colony of scientists on Mars, viewers thought that this meant the end of life on Earth as they knew it. Originally the programme was scheduled for April 1st as an updated hoax of Orson Welles' 'War of the Worlds' broadcast. However, owing to industrial action, the broadcast was delayed till June and afterwards the switchboard was jammed with shocked viewers. As an investigation into the alternative courses of action following pollution-fuelled environmental catastrophe on Earth, three options are considered: cut the population, cut consumption, or get off the planet.
