Every year, a Countess (Bette Davis) invites a poor Italian family to play in a card game with the Countess' money at stake. She always wins. But one year, the family wins a fortune, only to lose it later in the game. Afterwards, the Countess is driven to the airport leaving Peppino (Alberto Sordi) and Antonia (Silvana Mangano) to their dreams of winning again. Their five children, however, have other plans...
