Forest Whitaker walked away with the Best Actor Oscar for his complex portrayal of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin. Adapted from the novel by Giles Foden, the story is told through the eyes of a fictional character, Nicholas Garrigan, Amin's personal physician in the 1970s, who comes to realise he is trapped in a surreal and terrifying regime run by an increasingly erratic and paranoid man. Whitaker's jaw-dropping performance is a realistic and frightening portrait of one of the world's most notorious and elusive political figures.
