A Ship Bound for India

When Johannes Blom (Birger Malmsten) returns home after seven years at sea, he finds his former sweetheart despondent. Johannes had first met Sally (Gertrud Fridh) aboard the salvage boat he lived on, when his drunken father had brought his mistress to live with his long-suffering wife and son in their claustrophobic cabin. As the four strive to co-exist in the fervid atmosphere, an unlikely romance develops between the son and his father's lover. Early drama from Ingmar Bergman ("Wild Strawberries") contains the seeds of the great films that were to come.
