Expedition Antarctica: Into the Frozen Abyss

Three documentaries on the exploration of Antarctica - both past and present - celebrates man's determination to discover more about the world - whatever the cost. 'Expedition Antartica' documents the unprecedented journey of a team of international marine scientists and crew on board the research vessel the PV Tangaroa, as it heads for the Ross Sea off the Antarctic Ice Shelf in 2008. In 'Icebound - 100 Years of Exploration' we explore the conflicts and dilemmas, the heroism and drama of Antarctic discovery. In 'Ice Pilots' fearless pilots use US Air Force Hercules LC-130 to carry scientists into the unexplored and otherwise unreachable realms of the ice, at great risk to both man and plane.
