The true story of Somalian supermodel Waris Dirie is told in this adaptation of her autobiography of the same name. A victim of female circumcision at age 3, Dirie escaped Somalia as a 13-year-old to avoid an arranged marriage, only to go on to gain international stardom as a top model and in 1997 was appointed UN Special Ambassador for the Elimination of Female Genital Mutilation.
