Shanghai

Set in 1941 on the eve of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, the story revolves around American spy Paul Soames (John Cusack), who arrives in Japanese-occupied Shanghai to investigate the mysterious murder of his friend. His quest for the truth ultimately leads him to Shanghai's underworld kingpin Anthony Lan-Ting (Chow Yun-Fat), who has some suspicious dealings with Japanese intelligence officer, Captain Tanaka (Ken Watanabe). Falling for the powerful mob boss's beautiful wife Anna (Gong Li), Paul finds himself in grave danger as he gets entangled in an intricate web of lies and conspiracies.
