The Constant Gardener

Fernando Meirelles ('City of God') makes his English language debut with this enthralling, complex John Le Carre thriller. Deceptively sedate at first Justin (Ralph Fiennes) is a mid-level diplomat whose wife (Rachel Weisz) is murdered while they are stationed in Nairobi. Her story is told in energetic flashbacks employing the same hand-held immediacy as 'City of God', while Justin unravels the mystery of her death, and an unapologetic web of corruption. A thoughtful and heart-wrenching meeting of the personal and the political.
