For Whom the Bell Tolls

Gary Cooper, Ingrid Bergman and Katina Paxinou all won Oscars for their work in this adaptation of the classic Ernest Hemingway novel. Overall, it won nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture. The story revolves around an American demolition expert who decides that he must fight against the Fascists in Spain. Even as the Civil War rages, a romance grows between him and a beautiful Spanish woman.
