A.k.a. "Après mai", "Something in the Air". From acclaimed director Olivier Assayas ("Carlos", "Summer Hours") comes a semi-autobiographical tale of young love and political rebellion set in the tumultuous days of 1971 France. Three years after the massive civil unrest of May 1968, middle-class high school student Gilles' dreams of life as a painter and filmmaker are tested by his political awakening and his growing feelings for fellow revolutionary and classmate Christine (Lola Creton). When a guard is injured during an act of protest, Gilles and Christine are forced to leave Paris for the summer, but their romanticized idea of "going on the lam" slowly comes undone as Gilles' personal ambitions begin to clash with Christine's political ones. Deftly interweaving the preoccupations of youth with the realities of adulthood, Assayas creates a memorable portrait of young love set during a landmark period of social revolution.
