A son sets out to avenge his father and gets two sword fighters to help him in John Woo's take on the heroic fantasy movie genre. With plenty of outstanding action choreography and notions of betrayed loyalty, this period piece, with its emphasis on martial loyalty, was an essential marker in Woo's career and went on to directly influence much of 1980s Hong Kong action cinema.
