There is real pressure on to expose the French resistance, and the local group plan some assassinations in Villeneuve. But in the planning, Marcel's new girlfriend is captured, and Marcel is involved in an unplanned murder of a German officer. Tensions ratchet up. Hortense is involved in a steamy affair with the local German commander. Lucienne has become pregnant to a German soldier. The tensions and the passions in the village are on the rise, and still, the villagers sense of trust in each other is being challenged by the dreadful occupation.
